"Story—An Embarrasing need

There is a need for some one or something in everybody’s life. But the thing is whether you are able to get the thing or not. This need makes us do many things which we never want to do.
This is a true story about a Goan girl who wanted some one who could understand her and support her. About some years back, I had gone to Goa on a pleasure trip. There, one fine evening, I was strolling on the seashore. The sight of the sunset was wonderful as red rays of the sun covered the sky like a red sheet. On the far end there was a rock standing out from the shore as if it were trying to touch that shallow waters of the sea. On the rock sat a girl looking towards the sky giving a blank look as if she was able to see the other world.
As I went close to he, I was able to see her empty deep eyes. I tried to talk to her but could not gather the courage, so I went back to the resorts lost in the thoughts of the girl. As the night passed, I was still sitting in my armchair thinking about the girl’s eyes and her beautiful face. The knock on the door awakened me from my fantabulous dream. As I opened the door the fairy was standing in front of my. She looked like a dream I asked her to come in. she hesitated but some how with her soft and petal like foot she walked in.
she told me she was the guide I had asked for and introduced herself as Sherlie Alberque. I asked her to wait to wait as I ahd to get ready. She sat on the sofa with the blankness in her eyes again coming up. I got ready and came out to see her lost in thoughts as if trying to touch the sky while remaining on the earth. I woke her from her unknown thoughts first we went to a nearby church. There we both knelt down to pray. After a few moments I could hear her sobs. I somehow gathered the ourage and asked her the reason for the cyring and for the blankness and deepness in her yes. She stated at me as if I had committed a grave mistake by asking her. A littler tremble shook me. She very politely told me that though she did not know the reason but some how he felt that she could believe me. This was my first stepping stone.

Then started a long but pleasure trip in to her past. Her father’s name was James Alberque and her mother’s name was Susan Alberque. James was a tourist guide. He went in the morning. His returning time was known to God only. Susan used to run a tea stall. So she also had no time and unknowingly neglected her daughter. Sherlie used to feel very lonely as there was no one with whom she could play or share her feelings. Since her parents also had no time for her she needed someone with whom she could share her joys, her sorrows and who could understand her thoughts and feelings. This all happened when she was in Sir Lawrence Public School in Eleventh Class.
During that time she met a boy in her class whose name was Sebastian. He liked her. But she hated his flirting nature and his unruly activities. He even told her that he loved her. But she told him that he was not the guy she wanted and that she even hated his presence. In the same class was another boy who was of jolly nature and liked to enjoy each and ever moment of life. He managed to ask her, why was she so shy and reserved. She was so embarrassed as no one had asked her this question before. She somehow managed to change the topic. Hence grew their friendship as time passed. The name of this boy was Joseph D’costa. Though she had many friends she was close to Joseph and with his relation came the first change in Sherlie’s life. From a shy and reserved kind of girl she became a bold and jolly girl. One day while strolling on the sea shore she saw two boys who were busy trying to build some thing from sand. She watched them for some time. She went home lost in the thoughts of one of them. Day and nights she was thinking about him. After a through research she came to know that he was in her school, one year senior to her and his name was Andy Gomes. Though she met him daily she could not tell him that he was the person she needed.

Anyway as time passed she forgot hi and her schooling also came to an end. Now she was a college going teenager. In the first year of college. She mad many friends. Among them was boy called Neol. As time went by Sherlie and Neol came close and became intimate friends. For Neol it was a dream come true as he like her the very first time he saw her he even took her home and introduced her to his mother Sherlie also had full faith in Neol, but she did not love him. She saw him just as a friend. One day during holidays she came to meet Neol. During the conversation Neol came to know Sherlie’s past. She also had the habit of writing diary. Neol had read the diary without her permission. That was the end of their friendship. After some time, she asked him to leave her home. But he pulled her by hand and asked her to sit for some more time. As she was not ready, she released her hands and said goodbye to him forever.. later she came to know Neol had committed suicide by jumping into the sea. This incident shook her and she started doing things which she herself hated. Some how she came out of the trauma. Since them she has been waiting for someone. The most embarrassing and pitiful thing is that none of the people in her life were able to understand what she wanted nor did she tell any one, except Jospeh. But he was lost in the past.
After hearing her story. I got the answer for the deep blankness in her eyes.
